Four sessions that will help students conceptualise and craft their Caribbean Studies SBA.These interactive sessions will combine in-depth explanation with practical exercises so that students are equipped with the knowledge & tools needed to conduct their research project. Sessions will be held every Saturday in November 2018. 3rd November- Topic Selection & Literature Review Q: Why do people conduct research? A:To find answers to problems. This session will focus on helping students to identify problems and craft research topics and questions. It will look at the role literature plays in shaping a researcher's thoughts and ultimately the instrument created to conduct a new research project. 10th November- Collecting & Presenting Data Q:What are data? A: Data are information collected for reference and analysis. This session will look at primary and secondary data collection methods. It will focus mainly on quantitative instruments looking at methods of enquiry and sampling. It will also look at ethics in conducting research and presentation of findings. 17th November- Conventions for Interpreting Findings Q: What is the data saying? A: That's up to your interpretation. This session will look at how to evaluate and analyse raw data. It will focus on ways of accurately identifying trends and patterns shown in raw data and collating information with knowledge gained from the literature review. ​24th November- Approaches to Discussion of Findings Q: How do you tell others what your research has shown? A: You give them a clear, substantiated explanation. This session will look at how to craft a logical discussion in a coherent manner. By using examples, we will examine ways of addressing data in light of research questions while referencing the body of work done by other researchers.
